Nia is a sensory-based movement practice that draws from martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Classes are taken barefoot to soul-stirring music and every experience can be adapted to individual needs and abilities. Step into your own joyful journey with Nia, and positively shape the way you feel, look, think and live!

Nia draws from Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, jazz dance, modern dance, Duncan dance, yoga, Alexander Technique and Teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais. Every class offers a unique combination of 52 moves that correspond with the main areas of the body: the base, the core and the upper extremities. Stiff beginners and highly fit athletes alike can adapt Nia to meet their needs by choosing from three intensity levels.

My personal Nia journey began in Hong Kong where I took my very first class and immediately fell in love with this sensational practice! On my return to Canada soon after my discovery, I took my Nia White Belt training in Ottawa, in June 2011. I went on to take my Blue Belt training in Burlington, Vermont in August of 2013 and more recently, in October 2015, I travelled to Boulder, Colorado to take my Green Belt. All of these trainings have taught me something new and given me a fresh perspective on teaching Nia and have definitely helped me to deepen my personal Nia practice and continue to inspire me to share this joyful, sensational practice with others so that they too can reap the benefits of dancing with awareness and living in their body in a whole new way.
